About Me
Hi! I'm Laura, the face (and hands) behind Eden Cottage.
After burning out from many years of working in social care I found my passion in the kitchen, baking cakes, scones and cooking cosy, homemade dinners. It has been a long held dream of mine to have my very own tea room and gift shop, a place filled with cosy corners, interesting trinkets, home baked goodies and a little cottage garden, but as a mum of four and working in hospitality, that dream seems a long way off!
I am committed to using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients for our bakes wherever possible. Being based in the North East of Scotland, there is no shortage of local growers and producers, and I aim to support our local community, keep food miles low and ensure the freshest produce is used. We also have our own cottage garden here, which I (ambitiously) hope to make use of next year to grow more of our own soft fruits, rhubarb and herbs... you can't get fresher and less travelled than your own back garden!
So, after many months of toying with the idea, and much encouragement from friends, I have decided to start building something that ticks all my crafty, baking and cooking boxes, and take the terrifying yet exciting decision to start Eden Cottage, a little corner of the internet for my online tea room and gift shop.
Why "Eden Cottage"
A few years ago, I became a little bit obsessed with a Tearoom that came up locally for sale. I had the vision and all the details worked out in my mind, a cosy, rural tea room, a little area for country, nature inspired gifts, a little woodland cottage garden, maybe even a monthly bistro evening... but it wasn't to be, and a family purchased the building to convert into a very unique home. I was so disappointed, but the dream and the vision never really left me. Then, more recently, it occurred to me that I could adapt my dream, and create something I can do from home, a little postal tearoom if you will. Something that incorporates my love of nature, gardening and being outside, with my crafty nature and love for baking, creating a cosy, hygge feeling in every box or gift. So Eden has stuck with me, a little nod to my tea room dream that never was.
