Getting Started

Hello and welcome to my very first blog post!

I'm Laura, and if you're meeting me for the very first time you can read a little introduction about me and our family business on our about us page here.

I've decided to embark on a pretty ambitious project of creating my very own postal tea room, a cosy corner of the internet for postal bakes, afternoon teas, and meaningful gifts, all inspired by nature and making use of the best local, seasonal produce surrounding our Aberdeenshire cottage.

Getting Started - Chapter 1

If you've been around since my first dabble with running a business, you'll know I am partial to a craft! I love nothing more than making things with my own hands, (I discovered a long time ago I am not the sort of person that's built to sit at a desk). One of the things i've needed to consider for this new adventure is deciding whether to keep hold of the crafty side. I do have a habit of biting off more than I can chew, so I need to be pragmatic with whatever I choose to take with me going forward, it needs to be scalable and streamlined, so that I can incorporate the baking, cooking and gardening projects.

So with that in mind, I've decided to keep hold of our personalised ceramic keepsakes and clear out all the other personalised items. The ceramic keepsakes are my absolute favourite thing to print, they can be quite a challenge, their delicate nature can mean they snap under the pressure of the heat press, but I love the thought of creating something so meaningful, a Christmas Ornament that can be hung on the tree each year, a New Baby Keepsake that can be placed in a memory box or a heartfelt personal trinket that can be sent to someone special.

A fantastic thing about being part of the crafting community is that there is usually someone keen to take on excess craft supplies, so all of my remaining items (some of which have been languishing in storage for quite a while!) can be passed on or repurposed.

If your keen for a nosey at exactly what our personalised keepsakes are, you can find links to them on the homepage. All of our designs are purchased from licensed work from artists and designers... no AI here!

A little more about my why...

The world seems like a pretty scary place right now, especially for parents, and I worry what sort of life my children may experience as they navigate adulthood. And like most parents, I'd like to try and give them the very best start, which is my main motivator in taking the plunge. I'd love to be able to support my children through higher education or training,  so they can have a debt free start to the rest of their lives. My eldest daughter is currently at University in Edinburgh, with my second daughter just starting her degree at St Andrews, student loans have been a necessary tool to keep things ticking. With two sons still at home, hopefully embarking on higher education or apprenticeships in their future, the collective costs run into the tens of thousands, a thought that keeps me up at night (and full of mum guilt!). So with this in mind, I wanted to build something I'm truly passionate about, but will give me the flexibility to be present at home for my family, and hopefully help with life's additional costs. Every order and every follow of this journey will bring me a little closer to that goal, and who knows, maybe one day i'll get my real life tea room!
